Bridge of Earn lies in the extreme east of Strathearn where the River Earn enters the Tay
Estuary and the sea, on the east coast of Scotland.
The village lies on the main Edinburgh to Perth road. A bridge has existed over the Earn
at this point for over 700 years. Robert the Bruce, Robert I 1306–1329, ordered repairs
to be carried out. The current bridge was built in 1821.
Bridge of Earn became popular in the late 18th Century as a Scottish spa destination. People flocked to visit the nearby Pitkeathly Wells to 'take the waters'. The source of the water has however been polluted by modern agriculture and the Spa has closed.
With good road links across Scotland to Perth, Edinburgh and Dundee, the village has become a desirable 'domitory' location. The short main street has a collection of essential shops & businesses.
